'FROME & THE MONMOUTH REBELLION'
In 1685, the Duke of Monmouth led a rebellion to overthrow his uncle, King James II. Although it failed and he was executed, this uprising still echoes down the centuries. In this three-hour 'talk & walk' event, the significance Frome played is revealed; first in a classroom presentation and then with a walk through the streets of seventeenth century Frome. This includes the site where Monmouth stayed during his visit to the town, along with many of the stories of local men who picked up their pitchfork to follow him but ended up paying the ultimate price. Led by well-known local historian David Lassman.
