Are you sometimes baffled by what you hear, see or read in the news? Looking for an opportunity to learn more and discuss some of society's current issues? This five-week course could be just the answer.

Each week we'll consider a different topic based on a range of current sources and insights, followed by friendly, informal discussion – with occasional group exercises. In this spring series we'll explore:

The Price of Life – are some lives worth more than others? For example - Post Office or infected blood scandals, Manchester arena/London Bridge terrorist attacks?

Overtourism – with global tourism worth £8.8 trillion and 1/10 jobs internationally, how can the rights of people to travel be balanced with tourism's impact on local residents?

Ageing in the 21st century – hype and actuality. As billionaires seek to reverse ageing and hunt for eternal youth, is ageing really about luck, genes or healthy lifestyle?

What happened to the 'Common Good'? Is there room for a 'common good' in a world of economic valuations by bankers, lobbyists and bond markets?

Ethics and Artificial Intelligence. As tech companies compete to develop ever more powerful artificial intelligence,  what ethical guidelines exist to contain their power?

No experience necessary, but curious, enquiring minds are very welcome.
