This hands-on, communal course teaches you how to dye fabric and create pigments using plant dyes. If you are interested in home dyeing, whether you're a beginner or experienced, this course is for you.

We'll explore mordant recipes, primarily using recycled cotton and linen, but also how to prepare wool and silk. We'll extract colour from foraged plants, kitchen waste, and dried traditional plant material, creating dyes and pigments. We'll learn how to use modifiers and over-dyeing to expand colour possibilities.

An introduction to indigo dyeing and the art of itajime shibori will also be included.

You'll create a collection of dyed fabrics and leave with samples for sewing projects and knowledge to continue developing your practice.  This relaxed 5-week course is perfect for anyone interested in natural dyeing but unsure where to start.

There will be an additional £5 charge for materials.
