From such figures as Robin Hood and King Bladud to King Arthur and the Holy Grail, we are exposed to myths and legends from childhood onwards. But where did they originate from and why do they continue to be so popular?
This course will focus on several of the most famous British myths and legends, charting their stories from the various ancient and medieval sources that exist, how they developed over the centuries, and the way in which they are portrayed in the modern day. At the same time, it will be seen how they reflect certain aspects of society and therefore what the myths tell us about ourselves.
